I think 2000-2009 was the Age of Fear, to be honest. We went into the year 2000 with the Y2K scare. 2001, of course, was characterized by the terrorist attack on 9/11. After that, things were never quite the same. We were bombarded with images and stories of the War on Terror. There were bomb threats, as well as actual bombings, not just on planes and in airports but on trains, cars, buses, etc. Not only did we face fear from outside sources, we also got fear of pandemics and new deadly strains of viruses, such as SARS and the Avian Flu.
Honestly, every year, there was something to be afraid of!
